Built for Medicaid

Ready to Change the World

OUR STORY is one of

experience, shock and recognition.

As mothers and fathers with pregnancy, birth, and first year of life experiences of our own (most with healthy outcomes, but some with incredibly challenging situations), we understand how demanding it can all be even with access to all the best care and support available.

Individually we were all shocked to learn the US ranks fifty-fifth in the world in maternal mortality, the lowest of any developed nation, and fifty-fourth in infant mortality, similar to third world countries.

Collectively with all of our Medicaid experience, best-in-class healthcare technology, and passion to improve the experiences, outcomes and lives of these moms and their babies – we realized we were more than ready, willing, and capable of making a real difference.

So we listened to what moms wanted,

and we were inspired to build what Medicaid needed to help reduce risks, improve experiences and increase healthy outcomes for moms and babies relying on Medicaid.

We believe when moms and babies are healthy and happy, it’s a better world, and we all win. It’s really that simple.

If you believe what we believe, let’s meet and change the world, one healthy and happy mom and baby at a time.

Leadership

  • Kate Grohall

    Kate Grohall

    President / Co-Founder of MySwaddle

Kate Grohall possesses over twenty years of broad healthcare experience: provider, payer and patient. Much of that time has been spent in reproductive health and safety. Health “care” in the US is a complex, expensive and fragmented industry that consistently produces poor results. Ms. Grohall has dedicated her career to distilling this chaos into a straightforward, accessible and transparent process that supports each stakeholder – Mom, baby and provider. Additionally, Kate holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master of Science degree in Organizational Leadership and Quality Theory.

Ms. Grohall began her journey to build MySwaddle as a young girl navigating life in a rural Wisconsin farm community in a family with limited resources. Concern for women’s reproductive health education, much less reproductive safety, was simply not prioritized. Despite domestic abuse, traumatic pregnancy, single parenting, joblessness and pregnancy Kate found the grit to persevere. MySwaddle was built upon these life experiences and her determination to create a system with better outcomes. Birth, adoption, stepparenting and fostering not only informed the process of building MySwaddle, but compelled Kate to find a way to channel those experiences into a tool to help others navigate pregnancy and birth in the healthcare setting and beyond.

“I’ve always been a problem solver and driven to help others. I do not accept subpar outcomes that can easily be improved.” MySwaddle is an illustration of empathy and compassion for the human experience of pregnancy and parenting. Founder, Kate Grohall, has applied her life experiences, extensive knowledge and resources as well as aspirations for a better health care delivery system to expose the shameful and isolating maternal health crisis in the United States.

MySwaddle embodies the power of connection. Connection to ourselves, to our bodies, to resources and to future generations!

  • Kia Hussain

    Kia Hussain

    Vice President of Business Development

Kia Hussain is a seasoned healthcare executive with over twenty years of experience in managed care, network development, and strategic growth.

As Vice President of Business Development at MySwaddle, Kia leads efforts to expand the platform’s presence in the maternal and infant health space, forging strategic partnerships with payers and providers to improve health outcomes. She asserts maternity healthcare is the most important and the most neglected episode of care in the United States.

Kia believes relationship-building through advocacy and education is now more important than ever, and it’s more possible as well. Kia has a passion for helping people (especially moms and babies) get the care they need to live healthy and happy lives.

Raised in Hawaii, and now living in New York for the past 20 years, Kia understands and appreciates the different cultural nuances necessary for providing appropriate care, and the different social determinants of health preventing many from getting healthcare.

As Vice President of Business Development for MySwaddle, Kia is responsible for oversight, development and implementation of Value-Based HealthCare strategies, services and products.

Prior to MySwaddle, Kia served as Director of Business Development for SKYGEN USA. Additionally, Kia held leadership positions with Liberty Dental and Delta Dental.
